Travelling to Thailand from Nov 2021: What now?

You’ll be in Thailand sooner than you think—whether for our Thailand International Orienteering Championships & Training Camp or going for a beach holiday (we have that too). If you come from the following 46 countries/regions, you get to travel quarantine-free into Thailand from 1 November!

Welcome to Pattaya, Thailand for orienteering! We do orienteering travel at ORIEN.ASIA.
Make a Thailand trip already within 2021. Join us for orienteering in Pattaya 26 December 2021 to 2 January 2022.

The eligible countries

From the TAT Newsroom:

“Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, UK, USA, and Hong Kong”

TAT states that travellers “must have been in the approved countries/territories for 21 days or more.” Some embassies state that travellers must have been in one single country/territory for 21 days, while other embassies state this in the plural (i.e. any combinations within the 46 listed). There is still great confusion regarding this and probably will not be

What documents do I need to travel to Thailand?

  • Thailand Plus travel authorisation will start on 1 November. All travellers to Thailand, including returning citizens, will apply for travel authorisation there whether they need a visa or not.
  • One night SHA+ certified hotel booking (during which you’ll need to undergo another COVID-19 test before release)
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination certificate more than 14 days before departure
  • RT-PCR test negative result within 72 hours of departure
  • Insurance covering COVID-19 hospitalisation with a coverage of at least USD 50 000

Not from the above 46 countries/regions?

Sandbox zones are also available to you who are not from the above 46 countries/regions. A booking of at least 7 nights in a SHA+ certified hotel is needed, and you’re then only allowed within the sandbox zone that you chose for the first 7 days. There will also be a second COVID-19 test before the end of the 7 days. Outside of these, the requirements are largely the same as the above (including the vaccination and insurance requirements).

The sandbox regions (officially renamed “blue zones”) are:

  • Bangkok
  • Krabi
  • Chon Buri (Banglamung, Pattaya, Si Racha, Ko Si Chang, and Sattahip – Na Jomtien and Bang Sarey)
  • Chiang Mai (Mueang, Doi Tao, Mae Rim, and Mae Taeng)
  • Trat (Ko Chang)
  • Buri Ram (Mueang)
  • Prachuap Khiri Khan (Hua Hin and Nong Kae)
  • Phang-Nga
  • Phetchaburi (Cha-Am)
  • Phuket
  • Ranong (Ko Phayam)
  • Rayong (Ko Samet)
  • Loei (Chiang Khan)
  • Samut Prakan (Suvarnabhumi Airport)
  • Surat Thani (Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao)
  • Nong Khai (Mueang, Sangkhom, Si Chiang Mai, and Tha Bo)
  • Udon Thani (Mueang, Ban Dung, Kumphawapi, Na Yung, Nong Han, and Prachaksinlapakhom)

These are largely the same as the 4-phase reopening plan as announced earlier.

Not vaccinated?

If you’re not vaccinated, you must undergo 10 days quarantine at a designated hotel.

Fully vaccinated travellers from outside the 46 countries/regions and travelling outside of the sandbox zones, must undergo 7 days quarantine at a designated hotel.

Well that means you can come to orienteering in Pattaya this December!
